Do you follow Dr. Patrick Hausenstein on Twitter? You really should. Each day he finds the best articles from the HR blogger and online community and shares them with his followers and us.

Dr. Hauenstein shared two recent articles from both TLNT.com and ERE.net that are worth reading and commenting on.

TLNT – The Coming Leadership Drought and How It Can Be Solved

TLNT’s “The Leadership Drought: Why It’s the #1 Issue for Organizations Today” by China Gorman paints a dour image for most companies:

Leadership is cited as the No. 1 talent issue organizations today face, with 86 percent of respondents surveyed citing leadership as “urgent” or “important.” This is compared with a meager 13 percent of the same respondents that claim they are doing an excellent job developing leaders at all levels.

Organizations are facing challenges such as developing multiple generations of leaders – not just Millennials, developing leaders with high flexibility and global fluency, and ensuring that leaders have the skills to understand and adapt to rapidly changing technologies. Essentially, leadership is taking on a much broader meaning than it did previously, where it may have described simply developing the next CEO or company C-Suite executive.

OMNIview’s POV – Leadership is key. Combined we have over 50 years of leadership experience on staff, and we’ve developed our foreQast and fitQuest platforms with leadership in mind. It doesn’t need to be guesswork when it comes to hiring the next generation of leaders in your organization, nor do you need to rely on your gut feeling. There’s good, solid, dependable scientific research that can be brought to bare in order to hire right the first time.

ERE – Social Media, Recruiters, Analytics

ERE.net’s Kevin Wheeler talks about something in HR that we have been talking about for months – the role of social media for recruiters and organizations. In “Moving from Transactions to Engagements – 4 Recruiting Trends”, Wheeler talks about social media and the analytics each recruiter and HR department will need:

Recruiters should be making short videos about the jobs they are seeking candidates to fill. By getting hiring managers to make a 1-3 minute video describing a particular position, its requirements, and perhaps by interviewing someone who already does that function, a recruiter could have a powerful attraction tool. It is a medium especially suitable for mobile.

The value of analytics can be judged simply: do they tell you what engages best or what contributes to the best experience through the actions of the candidates more than by what they say?

OMNIview’s POV – Social media will be key in this first par of the 21st century. 2014 has already shown that jobs can be recruited successfully through social media or viral video posts. We anticipate that every HR department or recruiter will absolutely need to master the tools of the web in order to succeed. Simply sending an email or monitoring a job posting board is no longer good enough. Now, we reach out to the recruit and candidate wherever they are and however they best prefer to communicate.
